Detach from Dramaâ„¢
The Patterns Beneath Emotional Reactivity
Drama is rarely the problem. It is the visible expression of patterns that have been forming long before conflict ever becomes apparent.
Most of us try to address drama once emotions have escalated, stories have hardened, and relationships have become strained. By then, we are attempting to extinguish a fire that has already spread.
Detach from Drama begins much earlier. It is an exploration of how meaning is created, how emotional reactions become patterned, how stories take shape, and how those stories gradually shape our relationships, our teams, and our lives.
Rather than asking, How do we stop the drama, this work invites a different question:
What patterns are quietly shaping my experience long before the drama becomes visible?
Before you begin
Before stepping into this work, sit with four questions:
- What meaning do I consistently create before I react?
- What emotional patterns have become so familiar that I mistake them for truth?
- What stories do I keep repeating about other people, myself, or what is happening?
- How are those stories already shaping my relationships, leadership, or everyday life?
If these questions land somewhere real, you may be ready to begin.
The five patterns
Drama rarely begins with what we can see. It begins with patterns that gradually organize how we experience ourselves, others, and the situations around us.
Detach from Drama explores five interconnected patterns:
- Meaning Making
How do I consistently interpret what is happening? - Emotional Reaction
Once I create meaning, how do I habitually respond? - Storytelling
What narratives repeatedly explain my experience? - Giving It Away
How do my stories begin influencing others? - Receiving
How do the stories of others begin influencing me?
These patterns provide the foundation for every learning experience that follows.
By the time emotional contagion is visible, you are not preventing anything. You are standing in a fire that has already spread. The real point of intervention is not the emotion. It is the interpretation that produced it.
Who this work is for
Detach from Drama was originally written for leaders because leadership is expected to manage the patterns. A team’s story can influence a department. An organization’s emotional climate can affect thousands of people.
Over time, it became clear that these patterns are not unique to leadership. They show up wherever people live, work, collaborate, parent, partner, and influence one another. The context changes. The patterns do not.
Detach from Drama is for people who want to see those patterns more clearly so that their relationships, their leadership, and ultimately their lives are shaped more by intention than by unconscious habit.
Ways to begin
There are several ways into this work, depending on whether you want an introduction to the framework, a deeper reflective experience, or support applying it inside real conversations, relationships, and organizations.
The PAUSE Model Intensive
Creating Space Between Interpretation and Reaction
A live virtual introduction to the Detach from Drama framework and the PAUSE Model, a practical methodology for creating space between interpretation and reaction before familiar patterns become automatic.
Together we explore why people rarely change simply because they are told to, how meaning becomes emotion, how emotion becomes story, and how greater awareness creates the possibility for different choices before those stories begin shaping our relationships.
Includes:
- Live virtual experience
- Reflection guide
- Initial pattern snapshot
